Q: What does an interior designer do? Do I really need one?

A: Interior designers take your vision for a space and help you define and refine it, then get to work on making it a reality! We get to know you and take lots of factors into account, then create a space that suits your lifestyle, tastes, and the architecture of your home. Whether or not you really need one is totally up to you - but if you're looking for an expert to help you upgrade a room (or your whole home), an interior designer is the way to go.

Q: When is the best time to engage an interior designer?

A: ASAP! If you are working on a custom build or addition, engage an interior designer AT THE SAME TIME you engage your architect and builder. Having a designer on your team from the beginning will ensure that detailed considerations are made before the dirt has even moved!

Q: How do I find an interior designer that's a good fit for me?

A: I recommend asking friends and acquaintances for recommendations. That's always a good place to start. If you have a designer you're interested in, take a close look at their portfolio of work to see if you jive with their design style. And before you go too far with any designer, definitely set up a time for a consultation call to get a feel for how you'd work together. Interior design is a collaborative effort, so you'll want to go with someone you feel comfortable with and excited about.

Q: How long do interior design projects take?

A: This depends entirely on the size and intensity of the project. The best way to get a sense of how long your interior design project will take is to schedule a design consultation.

Q: I live in a temporary space. Can I still hire an interior designer?

A: Yes! Any place where you live should feel like home, and personalized interior design can make a huge difference when it comes to taking someone else's space and making it feel like your own. We actually offer short term rental design services that are intended to do just that!

Q: How do I prepare for a consultation with an interior designer?

A: Give your project some serious thought and write down some of your goals and expectations. What do you want to accomplish? How do you want the space to feel? How much can you realistically spend? Q: Is this going to cost me a fortune?

A: The services offered by AWH are ideal for someone who wants to make an investment in their home, and while some decisions are strictly beautiful, others can vastly increase the value of your home. The best way to find out if our design services are a good fit for you budget-wise is to schedule a discovery call. We can discuss your needs and give you a better sense of what your project might cost.

Q: Can you work within an established budget?

A: Yes - as long as it's a reasonable one given the scope of the project. We will collaborate closely as we get your project started to make sure that all parties understand the expectations, budgetary and otherwise.
